Fried Wontons – A Delicious Recipe for a Stay at Home Parent
As a stay at home parent, I often find myself looking for easy recipes I can make with my kids that are both tasty and fun. Fried wontons are the perfect solution – they’re quick, simple to make, and delicious. Plus, my kids love helping me make them! This recipe is a great way to get the whole family involved in the kitchen.
Ingredients:
-Wonton wrappers (1 package)
-Ground pork (1 lb)
-Shredded carrots (1 cup)
-Chopped scallions (1/4 cup)
-Soy sauce (2 tsp)
-Salt & pepper (to taste)
-Vegetable or peanut oil (for frying)
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, shredded carrots, chopped scallions, soy sauce, salt and pepper until fully mixed.
2. Place one wonton wrapper in front of you on a flat surface. Place 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture in the center of the wrapper.
3. Dip your finger in some water and wet the edges of the wonton wrapper.
4. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally, making sure to seal all edges tightly.
5. Heat about ½ inch of oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until hot but not smoking. Carefully add the wontons to the skillet and fry them for about 2 minutes until golden brown on both sides.
6. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce!
The Story Behind Fried Wontons
Fried wontons have been around for centuries and have been enjoyed in many cultures around the world. For me personally, though, I remember my mom making them when I was growing up as a stay at home parent – she would make them every Sunday afternoon as a special treat for us kids! It was always so much fun to help her prepare them – we would each get to choose what filling we wanted inside our wontons and then help her fold them and fry them up! Now that I’m an adult and stay at home parent myself, I’m so happy to be able to share this tradition with my own children! Fried wontons bring back so many fond memories and it’s always such a joy to watch my kids get excited about making them with me!
