1 lb ground beef
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
12 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package directions
2 cups ricotta cheese
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook beef, onion and garlic until beef is no longer pink. Drain fat and add tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer 4 cooked lasagna noodles on the bottom of the dish. Spread with 1/3 of the ricotta cheese, 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese and 1/3 of the sauce. Repeat layers two more times. Top with Parmesan cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Plus, it’s so versatile – you can tailor it to whatever ingredients you have on hand or get creative with different flavors and toppings to keep things interesting! One of my favorite stories about lasagna comes from my Italian grandmother who used to make it whenever we visited her as kids. She would always tell us stories while she cooked – often about her own childhood experiences growing up in Italy during World War II – as she carefully layered her homemade lasagna with fresh ingredients from her garden. I remember feeling so special that she was sharing these stories with us while we enjoyed her delicious dish! It was such an amazing experience that has stayed with me all these years later! To this day, when I make lasagna for my own family I think back to those special moments with my grandmother every time – it really makes the meal extra special!
