“Tantalizing Trifles: Stay-at-Home Parent’s Recipe for Layers of Cake, Fruit and Custard”
Trifles are a classic dessert that has been around for centuries. They are a layered dessert composed of sponge cake, fruit, custard, and other flavorings like jam or liqueur. They are a great way to show off your baking skills and can be made in any flavor you can imagine. As a stay-at-home parent, I’m always looking for ways to entertain my kids and trifles are the perfect solution.
When I was growing up, my mom would make trifles with layers of cake, fruit and custard. It was always a special treat and even now, I still remember the sweet taste of her trifles. I would help her arrange the layers of cake, fruit and custard in the trifle dish and then wait impatiently for it to chill before devouring it. It was always a treat that my family looked forward to and it was our way of celebrating special occasions.
My mom’s recipe for trifles has been passed down from generation to generation and I’ve tweaked it over the years to make it my own. It’s an easy recipe that only requires a few ingredients, but it looks impressive when served in individual trifle dishes or one larger dish. Here’s what you will need for this delicious dessert:
Ingredients:
-½ cup sugar
-1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-1 box of store bought sponge cake
-1 pint fresh strawberries
-1 pint fresh blueberries
-2 cups heavy cream
-2 tablespoons liqueur (optional)
-1 cup custard (homemade or store bought)
-Whipped cream (optional)Directions:
Step 1: Begin by slicing the sponge cake into cubes and evenly distributing it in the bottom of a trifle dish or individual dishes. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of liqueur (optional).
Step 2: In a medium bowl, mix together the heavy cream with ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
Step 3: Arrange the sliced strawberries and blueberries over top of the sponge cake layer. Spread half of the whipped cream over top of the berries.
Step 4: Spread half of the custard over top of the whipped cream layer. Add another layer of sponge cake cubes and sprinkle with remaining liqueur (optional).
Step 5: Spread remaining custard over top of sponge cake layer then spread remaining whipped cream on top. Optional – garnish with whipped cream if desired.
Step 6: Place trifle in refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow all flavors to combine together. Serve chilled and enjoy!Trifles are a perfect dessert for any occasion because they are easy to make but look impressive when served. They are also customizable so you can create your own unique flavor combinations by adding different fruits or liqueurs as desired. Plus, they are sure to be a hit with both kids and adults alike! “Create the Perfect Teriyaki Chicken Bowl – A Parent’s Guide to Delicious Home Cooking!”
Teriyaki Chicken Bowl
As a stay-at-home parent, it can be hard to find the time to whip up a delicious meal for the family. But I recently discovered this easy teriyaki chicken bowl recipe that’s so tasty and quick to make that my kids can’t get enough of it. I love making this dish for them because I know they’re getting a healthy, balanced meal without me having to spend hours in the kitchen.
For this teriyaki chicken bowl, you will need: 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of minced ginger, 1/2 cup of cooked white rice, 1 cup of steamed broccoli florets, 1/4 cup of sliced carrots, and 1/4 cup of sliced bell peppers.
To start off, marinate your chicken thighs in a combination of soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger for at least 30 minutes. Once the chicken is marinated and ready to go, heat up a large pan with some cooking oil and cook the chicken until it’s golden brown on both sides. Once the chicken is cooked through and lightly charred on the edges (about 10 minutes), remove it from the pan and set aside to rest.
In a separate pot or pan, cook your white rice according to package instructions. When the rice is cooked through and fluffy (about 20 minutes), add in your steamed broccoli florets, sliced carrots and bell peppers. Cook everything together for another 5 minutes or so until the vegetables are tender but still have some crunch to them. Finally add in your cooked chicken and stir everything together so that all the flavors combine nicely. Serve warm in individual bowls with extra teriyaki sauce if desired.
This teriyaki chicken bowl makes an amazing dinner option for busy families like mine because it’s so easy to make yet so full of flavor. My kids love it when I make this dish because they get to help prepare it too! Plus they love telling their friends that their mom made them a delicious teriyaki chicken bowl – it always puts a smile on their face!
This recipe is one that I’ll be making over and over again as stay-at-home parent – not only is it super tasty but it’s also incredibly healthy for my family too!
