Fried Tofu with Sweet and Sour Sauce

As a stay-at-home parent, I’ve come to rely on quick, delicious meals that are both healthy and easy to make. One of my favorite dishes is fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce. Not only is this meal incredibly tasty, but it’s also incredibly simple to make. Below, I’ll share my recipe for fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce.

    Ingredients:
    – 1 block extra-firm tofu
    – 1/3 cup cornstarch
    – 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    – 1 teaspoon onion powder
    – 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    – Vegetable oil for frying
    – 2 tablespoons cornstarch
    – 2 tablespoons cold water
    – 1/4 cup white vinegar
    – 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    – 2 tablespoons ketchup
    – 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    – 1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar

    Directions:

    1. Slice the tofu into cubes or rectangles. Place the cubes in a bowl and add the cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Toss to coat the tofu pieces in the mixture.
    2. Heat enough vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat so that it reaches about one inch in depth. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu pieces to the skillet and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from heat and set aside on a paper towel lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
    3. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and cold water until a paste has formed. Set aside.
    4. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the vinegar, sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, and honey or agave nectar. Whisk together until combined and bring to a simmer for about two minutes until thickened slightly.
    5. Add the cornstarch paste to the pot and whisk together until fully combined and thickened slightly – about another two minutes or so. Remove from heat and set aside while you prepare the rest of your meal.
    6. To serve, place the fried tofu pieces onto a plate and pour desired amount of sweet and sour sauce over them – serve with rice or other sides of choice! Enjoy!

As I was preparing this dish one evening while my kids were running around playing outside, I was reminded of my own childhood memories of sweet and sour dishes that my mom used to make for me when I was young. This simple yet tasty dish brings back so many memories for me – it’s something that I look forward to making for my own children as they grow up! Whether you’re looking for a quick weeknight dinner or just want something special for your family – give this fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce recipe a try – you won’t regret it!

Grilled Pork Chops with Barbecue Sauce

As a stay-at-home parent, I try to make meals that are both delicious and easy to prepare. One of my favorites is grilled pork chops with barbecue sauce. The combination of the smoky, slightly charred flavor of the pork chops with the sweet and tangy barbecue sauce is sure to delight everyone in your family. Plus, it only takes about 25 minutes to prepare, so it’s perfect for busy weeknights.

To make this delicious dish, you’ll need the following ingredients: 4 pork chops, 1/4 cup olive oil, 2 tablespoons garlic powder, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar.

Start by combining the olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, oregano and black pepper in a shallow dish or bowl. Place the pork chops in the marinade and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and generously oil the grates. Place the pork chops on the grill and cook for 7-9 minutes per side or until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F.

While the pork chops are cooking, prepare the barbecue sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, brown sugar and apple cider vinegar. Cook until thickened and then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5 minutes before stirring in Worcestershire sauce.

When the pork chops are cooked through, remove them from the grill and brush with barbecue sauce. Serve hot with additional barbecue sauce on the side.

I have fond memories of my mother making this grilled pork chop dish when I was younger. She would often tell me stories while we cooked together; one of my favorites was about how she met my father while they both worked at a local barbecue restaurant. He was a chef there and he would make dishes like this one for her as they began to date—and that’s why she loved to make them at home when I was growing up!
