Shrimp and Lobster Bisque – A Recipe for the Stay at Home Parent As a stay at home parent, it can be tricky to find time to prepare meals for the family. But with a little bit of creativity and some simple ingredients, any parent can whip up a delicious, homemade meal. A great example of this is shrimp and lobster bisque – a savory, creamy dish that is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. The ingredients for this recipe are fairly simple: two tablespoons of butter, one tablespoon of all-purpose flour, one cup of chopped onion, one cup of chopped celery, two cloves of garlic minced, one teaspoon of dried thyme leaves, two cups of chicken broth, one can (14 oz) of diced tomatoes with juice, two pounds of peeled deveined shrimp and one pound of cooked lobster meat. To begin, melt the butter in a large saucepan on medium heat. Add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Then add the onion and celery and cook until softened. Add the garlic and thyme leaves and sauté for another minute or two. Add in the chicken broth and diced tomatoes with juice and bring to a gentle boil. Simmer for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. Next add in the shrimp and lobster meat. Cook until shrimp is cooked through, about 5 minutes or so. Finally remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth then pour back into the saucepan over low heat. Add salt and pepper to taste then let simmer for another 5 minutes or so before serving. This savory dish is sure to be a hit with the entire family. Serve up with some crusty bread for dipping and you’ll have an unforgettable meal everyone will love! And here’s an added bonus; this dish has a special story behind it! The original recipe was created by my grandmother in the 1950s when she was raising five children as a stay at home mom. She served up this bisque often as it was easy to make with ingredients she had on hand but also made an impressive meal when company came over – so it was truly a win-win recipe! So next time you’re looking for an easy but delicious meal that’s sure to please even your pickiest eaters, give this shrimp and lobster bisque a try!
