Shrimp and Vegetable Dumplings: An Engaging Recipe for Stay-at-Home Parents

As a stay-at-home parent, it can be difficult to find time for culinary activities. Thankfully, Shrimp and Vegetable Dumplings are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that even the busiest of parents can enjoy. When my daughter was younger, she loved to help me in the kitchen. One of her favorite dishes to make with me was Shrimp and Vegetable Dumplings. The process of combining all the ingredients into little bundles of deliciousness was always fun and exciting for her. We would work together to roll out the dough and fill each dumpling with a flavorful mixture of shrimp and vegetables.

The beauty of this dish is that it is incredibly versatile. You can use whatever vegetables you have on hand, such as carrots, mushrooms, scallions, or cabbage. For the shrimp, I like to use larger shrimp that have been peeled and deveined for convenience. You can also substitute other proteins such as pork or chicken if desired.

Ingredients:
• 1 package of wonton wrappers
• 2 cups of shrimp (peeled and deveined)
• 2 cups of mixed vegetables (carrots, mushrooms, scallions, cabbage)
• 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
• 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger (minced)
• 4 tablespoons of soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
• 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Instructions:
1. Begin by heating up a large skillet over medium heat. Add the vegetable oil and garlic and ginger to the pan and sauté for about 1 minute or until fragrant.
2. Add in the shrimp and vegetables and cook for an additional 3 minutes until the shrimp are just cooked through. Season with soy sauce and sesame oil then remove from heat. Allow to cool slightly before handling.
3. Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and lightly brush water around all four sides using your finger or a pastry brush. Place approximately 1 tablespoon of filling in the center then fold over into a triangle shape; press edges together to seal shut then set aside on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat this process until all the filling has been used up.
4. Once all dumplings are formed you can either steam them or fry them in hot oil until golden brown; if you choose to fry them, be sure to keep an eye on them so they don’t burn! Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce like soy sauce or sweet chili sauce! Enjoy!
