"Baked Mac & Cheese with Ham & Peas - The Perfect Comfort Food for Stay-at-Home Parents!"
Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Ham and Peas As a stay-at-home parent, I’m always looking for tasty and simple recipes that the whole family can enjoy. One of our favorites is Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Ham and Peas. It’s an easy, cheesy dish that is sure to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. What I love most about this recipe is that it uses ingredients that I usually have on hand, so I can whip it up any time. The cheesy sauce and the ham and peas provide a unique flavor combination that just works. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so it’s a great meal to make on a busy weeknight. The story behind this recipe began many years ago when my grandmother was trying to come up with something new for dinner. She had some macaroni and cheese in the cupboard, and some leftover ham in the fridge. She added some peas for a little color, and she ended up with a delicious dinner that all of us kids loved! I’ve been making this classic dish ever since then, but I like to add my own twist by adding more cheese and herbs like parsley and thyme. The combination of the creamy cheese sauce, the salty ham, and the crunchy peas is absolutely scrumptious! And when you top it off with some buttery breadcrumbs for added crunch, you’ve got yourself a meal fit for a king (or queen)! Ingredients: -2 cups elbow macaroni -2 tablespoons butter -2 tablespoons flour -2 cups milk -1 cup shredded cheddar cheese -1 cup cooked ham, diced -1 cup frozen peas -1 teaspoon dried thyme -1 teaspoon dried parsley -Salt and pepper to taste -½ cup breadcrumbs -2 tablespoons melted butter Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter or cooking spray. 2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add in the macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente (about 7 minutes). Drain the macaroni and set aside. 3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour until combined then slowly whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook until thickened stirring constantly (about 5 minutes). Add in the shredded cheese, stirring until melted. Remove from heat. 4. Add the cooked macaroni, diced ham, frozen peas, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper to the cheese sauce and mix together until combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs then drizzle with melted butter. 5. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
