Tantalize Your Taste Buds with Fried Tofu and Sweet and Sour Sauce - An Easy Recipe for Stay-at-Home Parents!
Fried Tofu with Sweet and Sour Sauce As a stay-at-home parent, I’ve come to rely on quick, delicious meals that are both healthy and easy to make. One of my favorite dishes is fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce. Not only is this meal incredibly tasty, but it’s also incredibly simple to make. Below, I’ll share my recipe for fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce. Ingredients: - 1 block extra-firm tofu - 1/3 cup cornstarch - 1 teaspoon garlic powder - 1 teaspoon onion powder - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper - Vegetable oil for frying - 2 tablespoons cornstarch - 2 tablespoons cold water - 1/4 cup white vinegar - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar - 2 tablespoons ketchup - 1 tablespoon soy sauce - 1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar Directions: 1. Slice the tofu into cubes or rectangles. Place the cubes in a bowl and add the cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Toss to coat the tofu pieces in the mixture. 2. Heat enough vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat so that it reaches about one inch in depth. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu pieces to the skillet and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from heat and set aside on a paper towel lined plate to absorb any excess oil. 3. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and cold water until a paste has formed. Set aside. 4. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the vinegar, sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, and honey or agave nectar. Whisk together until combined and bring to a simmer for about two minutes until thickened slightly. 5. Add the cornstarch paste to the pot and whisk together until fully combined and thickened slightly - about another two minutes or so. Remove from heat and set aside while you prepare the rest of your meal. 6. To serve, place the fried tofu pieces onto a plate and pour desired amount of sweet and sour sauce over them - serve with rice or other sides of choice! Enjoy! As I was preparing this dish one evening while my kids were running around playing outside, I was reminded of my own childhood memories of sweet and sour dishes that my mom used to make for me when I was young. This simple yet tasty dish brings back so many memories for me - it’s something that I look forward to making for my own children as they grow up! Whether you’re looking for a quick weeknight dinner or just want something special for your family - give this fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce recipe a try - you won’t regret it!
