Master the Art of Cooking with Kids: Delicious Fried Tofu with Teriyaki Sauce!
Fried Tofu with Teriyaki Sauce
Ingredients:
-1 block of extra firm tofu
-1/4 cup all-purpose flour
-1/4 cup cornstarch
-1 teaspoon garlic powder
-1 teaspoon onion powder
-Salt and pepper to taste
-3 tablespoons vegetable oil
-3 tablespoons soy sauce
-2 tablespoons mirin (rice wine)
-2 tablespoons brown sugar
-2 tablespoons honey
-1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
-1 tablespoon sesame oil
-2 cloves garlic, mincedAs a stay at home parent, I often find myself looking for new recipes that are healthy, easy to make, and that my family will enjoy. Fried tofu with teriyaki sauce is one of our favorites! Not only is it a delicious dinner option that doesn’t require a lot of prep time or ingredients, but it’s also vegan, gluten free, and packed with flavor. Plus, it’s an ideal way to use up any extra tofu you might have in the pantry.
To begin making this tasty dish, start by pressing the tofu to remove excess water. Cut the block into cubes and set aside. In a shallow dish or bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the mixture until they’re evenly coated. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the tofu cubes and cook for about 5 minutes or until golden brown on both sides. Remove from heat and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
In a small bowl whisk together soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, honey, ginger, sesame oil and garlic. Pour the mixture into the same skillet used for frying the tofu and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and add the cooked tofu cubes back into the skillet with the teriyaki sauce. Toss everything together to coat evenly in the sauce and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until sauce has thickened slightly.
This delicious fried tofu with teriyaki sauce is best served over steamed white or brown rice and topped with sesame seeds and green onions for an extra kick of flavor. We love it as part of a meal but you can also enjoy it as an appetizer or side dish on its own! The possibilities are endless when you have this flavor packed dish in your arsenal!
Fried tofu with teriyaki sauce is one of my favorite dishes because it’s so easy to make yet so flavorful! It also comes together quickly so I can have dinner on the table in no time – which is always a plus when I’m trying to juggle parenting duties while still getting dinner ready for my family! Whether you’re vegan or not – I guarantee you’ll love this dish as much as we do!
