From Merritt Herald: "As BC faces an extreme fire season, battling nearly 1,000 fires already this year with no reprieve in sight, many people across the province have been affected by the devastation caused by out-of-control wildfires.

In order to help those affected British Columbians, the Canadian Red Cross launched a ‘British Columbia Fires Appeal’ on July 3.

The Province has now announced that it will match all donations to this appeal since July 3, up to $20 million.

“The Province continues to support evacuees through Emergency Support Services,” said BC Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Mike Farnworth.

“By matching Red Cross contributions, donations will go even further to aid community recovery and the Red Cross’ critical work on the ground.”

The federal government has also announced its intentions to match donations, meaning every $1.00 donated to Canadian Red Cross for BC wildfire relief will become $3.00."
